ROOM SPOTLIGHT: CASA COOK KOS
Travel is a constant inspiration in my life. I love to explore new places and cultures; either in real life or through books and magazines (the latter being a little more feasible these days, you know, with two kids and all).
As a designer, my eyes are always open in search of interesting places and spaces. The boutique hotel Casa Kook Kos is one that has always stood out to me. The design, done by Annabell Kutucu, manages to be neutral and minimal, but also layered and warm; it’s the best of all worlds.
Design is meant to move you, to transport you to a place, a time - evoke a feeling. When I see images of Casa Cook Kos I’m instantly in Greece, in the summertime, on a holiday. That’s the magic of a great space.
Here are some furniture pieces and accessories inspired by the bedrooms at Casa Cook in case you’re looking to bring some vacation vibes into your own home.
I absolutely adore linen bedding. It's comfortable, laidback and adds a bit of texture to an overall bed design. The choice of grey is subtle but striking. I always appreciate sheeting in a neutral other than white. Try oatmeal, beige, blush or grey. Parachute Home has fabulous options in all these colors and more.
2. WOOD BENCH
This wood slatted bench is the perfect addition to the end of a bed. It’s a great furniture option for a small sized bedroom that can’t fit a dresser or an armoire. I love this one because of its’ deep wood color and interesting grain, perfectly rustic.
There’s no reason why a nightstand can’t double as a striking design element. How fun are these drums? So unexpected and eye-catching. Don’t limit your search to classic nightstands when designing, make sure to check all categories, including accent tables, decor and even chairs.
You already know about my love for wicker. It’s a great material for indoor storage and these baskets are no exception.
5. THROW PILLOW
Throw pillows are a great place to add a bit of pattern to an otherwise print-less room. Love these with a geometric design and fun tassel corners.
The bedside lights are such a striking feature of the room, and such an easy feature to recreate at home.
7. BRAIDED RUG
When in doubt, a natural braided wicker rug is a sure way to go. It adds great texture but because of its neutral color it can really work with any room. Another plus is that it’s always easy to find and always available in tons of shapes and sizes.
Here's a glimpse into some other areas of the hotel, each one more inspired than the last. I'll leave you with that, I've got to go book my flight...
