An Interview with Jeremiah Brent

What was the most influential book you've read?

One of my favorite books that I've read that really changed my life was "The Alchemist" — It's one of those really special novels that I've read three or four times, and each time I read it, I feel like I learn something new about myself.

Favorite TV show?

I have the absolute worst taste in television shows and movies. If there is an alien in it or it takes place in space. Or Sigourney Weaver. Who I obviously have a massive crush on.

On the scale of 1-10, how excited are you about life right now?

I'm so excited about life right now. On a scale of 1-10, I'm probably at 11. We have this beautiful daughter, we have our new beautiful home, we are shooting the second season of our television show and I swear there's not a day that goes by that I'm super grateful for everything.

If you could master one instrument, it would be...

A piano. People just look sexy when they're like "Oh yeah, I can play that on a piano" *plays piano*

If you could sing a duet with anyone, it would be...

Whitney Houston... No, Nate can't sing. Sorry, Nate.

Last gift you gave a friend?

I sent flowers to one of my best friends yesterday. to let her know that I think she's valued and how great she is.

Last gift you received?

The last gift I received was a little painting my daughter made at school... Those never get old. It was very minimal, just a green line. That's my girl.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Joy. To spread joy, that would be my superpower is to make everyone happy. I don't care about flying, I don't want to control somebody's mind. I would like everybody to get along so I would like that to be my power.

Do you like your handwriting?

Eh, no. It's scribbly. Unless I'm really, really organized and I actually spend some time on it. Otherwise, it looks like a serial killer.

Hardest part about being a father?

Being a father, ha! The hardest part about being a father is learning how to live in that type of vulnerability everyday. It is scary and you just want to protect your child for as long as you can. And sleep. I miss sleep.

A sport you played growing up?

I played every sport growing up. Water polo, swimming, baseball, basketball. I was good at two of them. Swimming and water polo.

A sport you wish you could play?

I wish I could do tennis. I'm so bad at tennis.

Go-to karaoke song?

I hate karaoke. Nate's obsessed with karaoke — he actually has a running list of songs that he references. Me? No karaoke for me.

How do you have your coffee?

I like my coffee, in the morning, with a little bit of hazelnut creamer and, throughout the day, black and iced.

What do you put on your pizza?

Cheese. Just cheese. Maybe pepperoni. But mostly cheese. Cheese I like basically on anything.

Last line of your autobiography?

"He left it more beautiful than it was when he got there"

Favorite country to visit?

My favorite country to visit has been Thailand. And Peru.

Last country you visited?

Mexico, which I love more than anything. Everywhere in Mexico — such a special place.

Favorite dessert?

Sour patch kids. I have a real, serious, deep and dark relationship with Sour Patch Kids. I'm craving one right now just talking about it.

Favorite type of cake?

I like the store bought white birthday cake with white frosting and sprinkles on it. Birthday cake, get into it!

Favorite season?

Favorite smell?

Least favorite color?

Bright orange. Can't get into it.

Favorite animal?

Favorite curse word?

!@#$%^&*?! See? It just sounds so good.

Best home invention?

Coffee machine. I don't want to make coffee, I want to push a button and have a pot of coffee. I don't need to drip it through a tea leaf and press it...

When was the last time you cried?

Last night. I think crying is really good for you!

Favorite bedtime story?

Currently I'm obsessed with "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?". My favorite bedtime book right now is called "I Love You So Much", it's a good one. It's about loving someone so much.

Last photo you took on your phone?

The last photo I took on my phone was my daughter who got her Halloween costume in the mail. She was so excited that we had to rip it open and she had to prance around in it last night.
